"Come Away" was originally composed
for the lute and voice, although in this
recording, it is arranged for a steel string
acoustic guitar and voice.

- John Dowland (1563 – buried February 20, 1626) was an English composer, singer, and virtuoso lutenist.

- He was referred to as a member of the English Madrigal School and best known today for his melancholy songs such as "Come, heavy sleep" (the basis for Benjamin Britten's Nocturnal), "Come again", "Flow my tears", "I saw my Lady weepe" and "In darkness let me dwell", but his instrumental music has undergone a major revival, and has been a source of repertoire for classical guitarists during the twentieth century.

- John Dowland lived in France between 1580 and 1584
(in service with the English Ambassador to Paris).

- He lived in Germany between 1594 and 1598
(at the Royal Courts of Brunswick and Hesse, Nuremberg).

- In 1595 he traveled to Italy (Rome, Venice, Florence). Between 1598 and 1606 he was a lutenist at the court of Christian IV of Denmark. From 1597, John Dowland published books of songs as well as pieces for the lute.

- In 1612 he was appointed to the post of second lutenist at the court of Charles I of England.

- His son, Robert Dowland, was an acomplished lutenist and composer too.
